Timur Turlov

Timur Ruslanovich Turlov was born on November 13, 1987.

Timur Turlov became interested in investing while still in high school. However, his first experience did not bring significant profits, which did not stop him from continuing to explore finance and economic processes. After graduating in 2003, he joined the investment company World Capital Investments (WCI). As a trader, Timur Turlov gained valuable hands-on experience, allowing him to develop a deeper understanding of the market and to choose his career path for years to come.

Education and professional advancement

In 2009, Timur Turlov graduated from the Faculty of Economics with a degree in economic management. Along with his studies, Timur continued working at WCI, and thereafter – at Uniastrum Bank, where he was engaged in creating an infrastructure to provide access to US stock exchanges. This experience formed the basis for his further career and shaped his view of the financial market.

Foundation of Freedom Finance

In 2008, in the midst of the global financial crisis, Timur Turlov decided to establish his own company, Freedom Finance. This idea emerged as an alternative to traditional financial institutions that suffered from the crisis, and as a way to offer new investors unique gaining opportunities. The key focus for the new company was providing access to the world's largest exchanges, such as NYSE and NASDAQ, as well as offering brokerage services and portfolio management of securities.

Company's formative years were challenging. Many prospects were unwilling to invest in US securities, which initially hampered company's growth. However, as stock indices were recovering, people have increasingly turned to investing with Freedom Finance. From a small startup, the company has gradually grown into a major player in the investment market.

Moving to Kazakhstan

In 2011, Timur Turlov visited Kazakhstan and noticed an obvious lack of investment and brokerage companies in the country, despite the high interest of local investors. This prompted his decision to expand the business. In 2012, an office of Freedom Finance was opened in Almaty, and Turlov himself moved to Kazakhstan, the country where he further settled and the citizenship of which he acquired in 2022. For Timur, Kazakhstan has become not just a new market for his business development, but also the second home for his family.

Period of growth and international development

Starting from 2012, Freedom has been rapidly developing to turn into a financial and investment holding. In 2013, Freedom Finance Europe Ltd was registered in Cyprus and since then, it has been regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). This is how the development of holding’s European operations started.

Freedom Finance Europe has been actively implementing cutting-edge financial technologies, which enabled offering more convenient and faster access to markets to its clients. One its key achievement is the development of an online trading platform, which allows investors from different parts of Europe to make trades with minimal delays and on competitive terms and conditions. The platform provides access to a slew of financial instruments, thus substantially expanding trading and investment opportunities.

In 2019, Timur Turlov consolidated all companies within the holding under the Freedom Holding Corp. brand, and the united company went public on Nasdaq. During the IPO, the price of company's stocks with ticker FRHC was below USD 15.

In 2020, Turlov proceeded to developing an ecosystem in Kazakhstan by adding companies engaged insurance, ticket sale and payment systems into the holding structure. In the US, he acquired a brokerage business entity named Prime Executions, which complemented the holding and started its operations in US largest stock markets.

In 2024, trading in Freedom Holding Corp.’s stocks started on the Astana International Exchange (AIX) marking another important milestone in company's development.

Social and sponsorship projects

In addition to doing business, Timur takes an active part in social and educational projects. Starting from 2023, he has headed the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and is chairing the board of trustees of the youth football league. In 2024, he initiated the launch of online educational project Qalam focused on the history of Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

In addition, Timur has become the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the UN Global Compact in Central Asia, which deals with humanitarian issues and development of the region. This adds substance to his desire to not just develop his business, but also to make a significant contribution to the social development.
